Utility Allowances
The King County Housing Authority provides a monthly utility allowance to the Housing Choice participant for participant-paid utilities. The allowance is based on an average utility rate for the area and is given in the form of a credit to the participant's total monthly rental payment. Any utility usage above the allowed average will be the participant's responsibility.
The utility allowance tables shown below are effective as of Nov. 1, 2010. As you will notice, the tables are much simpler than before making them easier to understand. KCHA is also changing the name from a “utility allowance” to an “energy assistance supplement” to reflect a more accurate representation of what they mean.
