Extremely low income preference

If your household's annual income is at or below the limits shown below, your household may receive waiting list preference.

Homeless preference

If any of the following apply to your household, you may receive waiting list preference:

• Living outside (e.g., no fixed roof, in a park, in a tent) or in a car or recreational vehicle
• Living in a temporary publicly or privately owned shelter
• Living on other unstable temporary housing (e.g., couch surfing, doubled up)
• In the process of graduating from a KCHA-funded sponsor-based program
• A graduate of the Shelter-Plus Care Program

Substandard housing, displacement, or rent burden preference

If any of the following apply to your household, you may receive waiting list preference:

• Live in a dilapidated home, or a home without plumbing, toilet, tub/shower, a kitchen, electricity, or heat
• Displaced by natural disaster, government action, or domestic violence
• Forced to move to avoid reprisal due to hate crimes, owner actions, or unit inaccessibility
• Paying more than 50% of gross income — before taxes are taken out — for rent and utilities (not including phone and cable) for the last 90 days
