KING COUNTY HOUSING AUTHORITY WINS NATIONAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE
Seattle– The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment
Officials (NAHRO) has given the King County Housing
Authority an Award of Excellence in Program Innovation
for the Village at Overlake Station, a transit-oriented
development (TOD) located in Redmond. The
national award honors outstanding innovation and
achievement in housing and community development
programs.
The Village at Overlake Station– the
first bus TOD in the nation– integrates 308 units
of workforce housing, a mass
transit facility and a child day care center on
a single site. Located at 2650 152nd Ave. Northeast,
in Redmond, the Village at Overlake
Station is within walking distance to a number
of major employers and retail services. The landmark
project was financed through a novel public-private
collaboration that included King County, the City
of Redmond and the King County Housing Authority.
"Programs like this set standards that are worthy
models for the public and private sectors," said
King County Executive Ron Sims. "This project shows
how a shared vision can work to the advantage of
everyone, creating a strong economic
infrastructure, lessening the burden on congested
highways, and promoting a livable
lifestyle for all."
KCHA administers a range of quality affordable
rental and homeownership programs for residents
of King County. The Authority serves more than
15,000 families, elderly and disabled households
on a daily basis.
