BOEING EMPLOYEES COMMUNITY FUND AWARDS GRANT FOR ART ROOM AT KENT
FAMILY CENTER
Building Better Futures is pleased to announce that the Employees Community
Fund of Boeing Puget Sound board of trustees approved a grant of $51,180
to be used toward the construction cost of a 777-square-foot art room
at the Kent Family Center at the Springwood Apartments in Kent. The
room, which will accommodate 30 children, will support students enrolled
in the Head Start program, also located in the facility.
"The generosity of Boeing employees will enrich
the lives of some of the poorest children in the
county," said
Building Better Futures Capital Campaign Chair
Jim Berrios. "We
are grateful for their substantial support of this
effort."
The Employees Community Fund grant brings
the contributions to the project within $1.1
million of the capital campaign goal of $4.2 million.
In addition to the
art room, the Kent Family Center will house four
Head Start classrooms, a Women,
Infants and Children (WIC) clinic, an adult learning
and jobs center and a public meeting
space for East Hill residents. The Kent Family
Center is expected to open in February 2004.
Building
Better Futures is a consortium of four agencies:
Kent Youth and Family Services, King
County Housing Authority, the Puget Sound Educational
Service District and the Center for Career
Alternatives.
