Mixed-income rental housing at Greenbridge in White Center

KCHA has built a national reputation for the ways we finance and develop low-income and affordable housing. We continue to seek out new ways to develop properties, enhance communities, and expand our portfolio. In addition to directly creating and preserving housing, we also help finance and develop affordable housing owned or operated by nonprofit, for-profit, and public partners.

KCHA currently focuses on acquiring and improving privately owned properties. These efforts help preserve housing for low- and moderate-income families for decades to come. Other projects involve new construction and target specific populations, such as seniors, people with disabilities, and those who need assisted living facilities. KCHA also hopes to play a central part in transit-oriented development on the county's east side.

We have also led large-scale development projects at Greenbridge and Seola Gardens in King County's White Center neighborhood under HUD’s HOPE VI program. These projects blend rental and for-sale housing and welcome residents of all income levels. When finished, roughly 4,000 people will call these communities home.

In 2012, KCHA wrapped up comprehensive renovations and repositioning of housing at Green River Homes and Birch Creek by leveraging private and public sources of financing for more than $60 million in capital improvements and rehabilitation. We continue to make critical improvements to other public housing properties throughout King County as well. KCHA has also developed a network of community centers to provide supportive services directly where low-income residents live.
