KCHA has received notice from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) for authority to administer 19 new vouchers with $287,841 in federal funds. With the new investment, KCHA can now provide rental assistance through HUD-VASH for a total of 1,269 formerly homeless veteran households.
HUD-VASH vouchers are designed to provide homeless veterans with access to rental assistance that is paired with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). Referrals to HUD-VASH are made through the VA Puget Sound and the King County Veterans Program.
KCHA’s award is part of a $33 million investment from HUD-VASH, supporting more than 2,500 new vouchers for homeless veterans. Since 2010, significant bipartisan investments, including HUD-VASH vouchers, Housing First, and supportive services have been effective at reducing veteran homelessness across the country.
