Rules, rights, and responsibilities

As a KCHA resident or voucher holder you have rules, rights, and responsibilities. Learn more about housing inspections, what’s expected of you and your landlord, and what to do if you have a concern or dispute.

Home inspections and repairs

KCHA’s HUD-certified housing inspections ensure that rental homes that accept vouchers are safe and livable. KCHA does similar inspections for Subsidized Housing. Learn about how inspections work and how to notify your landlord or property manager about needed repairs.

Resident and tenant responsibilities

Whether renting from KCHA or a private landlord, there are responsibilities that both tenants and landlords must follow.

Voucher termination

KCHA may terminate your voucher if you no longer qualify for the program or if you fail to follow the rules. If your voucher is terminated, you will receive written notice explaining KCHA’s decision. Your voucher cannot be terminated if you are a survivor of domestic violence.

Voucher informal hearings

If you believe that KCHA did not follow its policies or HUD rules in making its decision, you may ask for an informal hearing.

Subsidized Housing grievances

KCHA’s grievance process is for residents living in Subsidized Housing that KCHA owns. It ensures review of complaints or disputes involving KCHA. The process is not for settling disputes between residents, and it is not for challenging agency policies.
