About the RAD program

The Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) is a program from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that gives KCHA new flexibility to preserve and improve Subsidized Housing properties.

KCHA is applying for HUD approval to convert specific subsidized housing properties that are owned by KCHA. The conversion changes the source of federal funding for rental assistance from traditional public housing to a Section 8 project-based voucher under federal law. Residents will automatically be eligible for project-based vouchers and will stay in their current units.
