$3.6M renovation unveiled at Ballinger Homes
The King County Housing Authority has completed a $3.6 million makeover of the 110-unit Ballinger Homes public housing complex at 2200 N.E. 201st Place in Shoreline.
Over a two-year span, the housing authority changed the siding on the 24 apartment buildings, installed new roofing and vinyl windows, completed extensive drainage improvements, poured concrete sidewalks, added 20 parking spaces and remodeled the community building.
The complex caters primarily to immigrant families and is home to over 200 kids. It includes the Ballinger Homes Family Support Center, which provides job training, citizenship and ESL classes, a clothing exchange, emergency food services, after-school tutoring and computer labs.
Community partners at the support center include the Center for Human Services, city of Shoreline and Shoreline Community College.
The project team included: DKA, architectural revitalization and roof design; KCHA, window and siding design; RH2, civil engineer; Wyser Construction, site improvements; Shoreline Water District, water main replacement; Buchanan General Contracting, windows and siding; and Triple D Construction, roofing.
An open house will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Dec. 20 at the community building.
